About Lisbon

 

Lisbon is an ancient city full of history and cultural traditions. It is bordered by one of europe's widest rivers, the tagus, the city spreads across the slopes of seven hills and down to the ocean. Lisbon has the mildest climate in europe and is blessed with a cool atlantic breeze and long hours of sunshine. Add to this its cultural diversity, laid-back feel and architectural time warp, and you have one of the most enjoyable exciting cities in europe. And also one of the most economical.

 

The Lisbon region is the capital most affluent region in Portugal, ranks as one of the world's longest founded cities and one of the oldest in the world. The city is the westernmost capital in mainland Europe. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean coast at the point where the river Tagus flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Constructed after World War II, is the famous Cisto Rei monument in Almada. Mirroring the Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, it stands with stretched arms overlooking the entire city.  Lisbon beautiful sandy beaches, limestone buildings, narrow alleyways, and an easy going atmosphere that makes it a popular year round destination.

 

 

Climate

Lisbons climate is mild and temperate. Due to the Gulf Stream influence it has one of the mildest climates in Europe. With short winters and long hot summers, temperatures average between 60º F and 70 ºF annually. Lisbon tends to be cooler than the rest of Portugal due to it proximity with the sea. Although temperatures may fall somewhat low in the autumn and winter months (January being the coldest), it rarely falls below freezing, and there is almost always sunshine basking the city.
